Sihanoukville Boats And Piers
Sihanoukville was developed as a deep water port to enable Cambodia to import raw materials and goods from the rest of the world and its location on a peninsular of land means life for many of the inhabitants revolves around the tourists that the beaches and islands attract and the port area with all its economic benefits for the city. Currently there are dozens of tourist boats operating from the various piers that jut out into the sea from the numerous beaches that surround the city offering easy access to the tourists that they serve although many of these boats are moored overnight behind the breakwater of the main port which provides them with protection from the occassional tropical storms which sweep through the area.
Sihanoukville Piers
Serendipity Beach Pier
Red Marker on Map
This is the busiest pier as far as tourists are concerned being located at the end of Serendipity Beach Road at the heart of the busiest tourist area and even has the Pier Bar located towards the far end which offers great views looking back towards Serendipity and Ochheuteal Beaches. Fast cataman-style boats and slower converted fishing-type boats operate from here to the islands including the two main islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem. Also so-called booze cruises head out from here in the mornings visiting one or two islands with swimming and snorkelling opportunities before returning just before dusk. For those that seek a more authentic trip smaller long-tailed boats can be hired for about $ 60 a day which can be used to visit the nearer islands of Koh Russei and Koh Ta Kiev.
